Day 3: Meeting the town

I started Day 3 how it seems like I will start everyday for the rest of my existence-cleaning up the mess of a property it was left. I can only do this for so long each day until I get tired…so this will practically take me forever. Every morning I walk outside and it feels like no progress has been made. Worse: today it stormed all day. So I was working (and later walking) in the rain all day. Still…beats corporate work.

I noticed I had mail and decided to check. Alas-it was just solicitations. Someone wanting to build me rather expensive wells and someone else wanting to sell me luggage or some such. Either way, I stowed those away (seemingly never to be seen again) and, after doing some work on the yard, decided to explore town and meet people as I had been urged. Assuming there were people.

What I found was a little surprising-no one in this place locks the door to their house-only their bedroom. I walked freely into many people’s houses and just chatted with them (and their children.) I’m getting a serious Springfield, USA vibe from this place, which you would only understand if you were as obsessed with the GI Joe comics as I am. I chatted with a dozen or more people…but most with very little to say.

I bought a recipe for hash browns from the local saloon. They did NOT have burgers and their prices were quite excessive for my meager funds. Luckily-I found more flowers around town I can eat if needed.

Met a kid whose mom told them not to talk to strangers “but I seem ok.” That kid lacks sense, I think. Met more around town-but nothing really stood out. Again found the mayor. Tried to stop at the shop that solicited me today, but they were closed. Seems like a poor business model. Found the lady who welcomed me, and she tried to sell me more stuff. I suspect she is the one who wants to charge so much for wells.

Finally I had enough of the socializing-none of the people really had much to say, but it seems I must meet the whole town to move forward. I then returned to the homestead, cleaned the yard more (for all the good that will do) and went to sleep. Another day…even less dollars.
